Certification: CIP Level 1

After successful completion of the CIP Level 1 certification requirements, a level 1 coating inspector (NACE Coating Inspector Level 1 - Certified) is recognized as a basic inspector who:

  • Has "entry level" knowledge of corrosion, surface preparation, cleanliness, environmental conditions, test instruments, coating mixtures, and safety

  • The ability to perform and document basic non-destructive inspections of liquid coatings applied by brush, roller, or spray to steel surfaces under the supervision of a level 2 or 3 coating inspector when working in a shop setting (shop includes but is not limited to workshop, factory or plant)

  • Under the supervision of a level 3 coating inspector, the ability to perform and document basic non-destructive inspections of liquid coatings applied by brush, roller, or spray to steel surfaces when working in a field setting (field includes but is not limited to production facilities, plants, and oil fields)
