Certification: CIP Level 2

After completing two years of inspection related work and successful completion of all CIP level 2 certification requirements, a certified level 2 coating inspector (NACE Coating Inspector Level 2 - Certified) is recognized as an intermediate inspector who:

  • Has a "working knowledge" or knowledge of corrosion, surface preparation, cleanliness, environmental conditions, test instruments, coating mixtures, and safety

  • Can undertake unsupervised non-destructive and destructive inspections of liquid and non-liquid coatings applied to any substrate while working in a shop setting (shop includes but is not limited to workshop, factory or plant)

  • Under the supervision of a level 3 certified coating inspector, can undertake non-destructive and destructive inspections of liquid and non-liquid coatings applied to any substrate while working in a field setting (field includes but is not limited to production facilities, plants, and oil fields)

    Application Procedure

    CIP Level 2 certification requires 2 years of verifiable coating related work experience. An approved application outlining your coating related work experience, including qualification references, is one of the REQUIREMENTS toward obtaining a NACE International Institute CIP Level 2 certification.

    Requirements Necessary to Achieve Certification
    Effective January 1, 2016, the CIP Level 2 Certification will require 2 years verifiable coating inspection work experience. In addition, a NACE International Institute Certification Application will be required. If you are currently registered for a course that is after January 1, 2016, an application is REQUIRED to obtain a NACE International Institute CIP Level 2 Certification.
